Today was an extremely gloomy, grey, wet and cold day here. Went I woke up today I thought I would try to make the day brighter with my outfit. What better way to brighten the day with YELLOW. I've been obsessed with yellow ever since I purchased a mustard yellow spring jacket from Forever 21 when I was in Vienna, Austria a few years ago. The yellow floral top I wore today I made it with a smocking technique that I played around with in the summer. I also wore a yellow rain coat, that I picked up from my favorite store VALUE VILLAGE, many people when they see me in my yellow raincoat they automatically associate it with a character in pop culture. Georgie. Coraline. Paddington. I get them all, but that little connection with a character from a movie is what helps brighten someone's day which was my goal today with my yellow outfit. I love my yellow raincoat because it has; a great hood to cover my hair from the rain, big pockets (called patch or pork chop pockets) with a closure to keep my important things that I put in my pockets dry. It's also lined with a black and white gingham cotton that is a cute little accent if I wish to roll my sleeves up. The last bit of yellow that I had in this outfit today was my yellow Fjallraven Kanken backpack, I recently learned that the company Fjallraven Kanken is a sustainable brand that encourages their customers to personalize their backpacks so that they become part of you, making you more likely to repair and keep your already existing bag that already has lots of memories rather than purchasing a brand new one, adding to fast fashion as well as adding to the landfill, your carbon footprint and therefore accelerating the rate of climate change in the world. Fjallraven Kanken also sells backpacks that they call Re-Kanken that are made from "one single yarn of recycled plastic bottles. Spin dyed to use less water, energy and chemicals" which is... GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT! And also means that it can be recycled again!!! I love companies like this that put an effort into being good for the planet. If you'd like to watch the video I watched about the Fjallraven Kanken backpacks check out Levi Hildebrand's video on the popular backpack. Yellow, or Saffron, is also one of the Pantones for Spring 2020 so keep your eye out! Thanks for reading see you next time! xo Stitch Sash
